Alive Wellness: A Holistic Wellness Centre

In the rushed lives that we lead today, there can be little time for us to catch our breath. Be it at work or home, we constantly find ourselves trying to do everything and to do it well. This fast-paced lifestyle and the time spent staring at different screens has contributed to widespread complaints about neck and back pain, and even mental stress such as burnout. Unlike other illnesses where a doctor’s help is usually sought, many of us push aside these health issues as trivial.

Alive Wellness, a holistic wellness centre in Hong Kong, attempts to address this by restoring your health and peace of mind with therapeutic solutions. Alice Yuen, founder of Alive Wellness, believes that achieving balance in all aspects of life is essential for leading a healthier and happier life.

The holistic wellness centre provides various kinds of treatments, such as Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, Acupuncture, Past Life Regression and Physiotherapy. They also regularly arrange classes and workshops for pilates, pre-natal pilates, meditation and crystal healing.

I visited Alive Wellness to consult with them about the stiffness in my neck and shoulders; a result of the extended amount of time I spend hunching over my laptop. My assumptions were that I needed some kind of drastic procedure – like physiotherapy or acupuncture. But when I met Alice Yuen, she took the time to speak to me and to understand the discomfort I was experiencing, while slowly checking for points where my body was stiffest.

Based on my symptoms, Alice Yuen conducted a Craniosacral Therapy session, which lasted a little over an hour. This was an alternative therapy method that involved using subtle movements to ease the restrictions of nerve passages, optimize movement of cerebral spinal fluid through the spinal cord, and restore misaligned bones to their proper position.

Breathing right during the session was crucial, and Alice Yuen guided me throughout the session with her calm voice. About twenty minutes into the session, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself in a state of complete bliss and relaxation. This feeling persisted up to a few hours after the session ended. I was given some tips to improve the arrangement of the items on my work desk, in order to facilitate a better posture. In addition, she taught me some simple home exercises, which helped to relieve the stiffness I was experiencing in my neck and shoulders.

We greatly appreciated the fact that this wellness centre did not try to persuade us to sign up for a long-term package, as most such centres try to do. They were patient in listening to our needs, understanding of our concerns and matched the issues we were facing against the most suitable therapy options. With their wide range of treatments and classes aimed at fixing ailments of all sorts, Alive Wellness is an ideal place to take a step back from society and re-energise.

Price: $1,200 per hour for the Craniosacral Therapy session with Alice Yuen. They also have packages for 5 hours at $5,500 and 10 hours at $10,000.
