Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

What Are The Benefits of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy ?

What Is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive holistic natural therapy.  It is beneficial in treating a wide range of conditions and can bring about profound healing at all levels: physical, mental, energetic and emotional.

It takes a whole-person approach to healing and the inter-connectedness of mind, body and spirit are deeply acknowledged.

Biodynamics is an attempt to appreciate the whole of things and to engage with expressions of health.  The work is about surrendering to the priorities of the body. There is a trust that, given the right relationship and with enough resources, the intelligence in the body will choose the best way to heal.

In Biodynamics we do not impose a plan from the outside. We listen and support the inherent striving of the organism away from fragmentation and towards health.  Stillness is a defining goal and experience in the work. Change happens in the still moments where an individual comes back into relationship with themselves and to what is around them.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is client-led. This means that the individuals’ system sets the pace at which the work progresses.

It aids in pain relief and encourages the nervous system, organs and musculoskeletal system to balance and heal.

Stress and anxiety are also reduced and the client often experience greater relaxation and enjoyment of life. As this is a gentle therapy it is suitable for all ages, including new borns, the elderly and people with delicate, degenerative or painful conditions.

How Does Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy Work?

During a Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy treatment session the client typically lies or sits on a treatment table fully clothed. The practitioner will use a very light touch to “listen” to the body’s intrinsic movements.

The practitioner will often begin the session by placing their hands lightly on the client’s feet.  From here the subtle movements and patterns of restrictions and ease may be felt.  The practitioner may then move to other areas of the body, often to the sacrum at the base of the spine or to the shoulders or head.  In “biodynamic” work the practitioner does not manipulate or adjust bones or tissue.

Throughout the session the client may feel a range of sensations such as tingling, buzzing, feelings of hot or cold. Sometimes the client may feel small movements or adjustments taking place. Often a client will experience a deep sense of calm and relaxation or may sleep deeply.  Any or all of the above is normal and welcomed as part of the healing process.

Trauma

Many conditions, such as birth issues, accidents, illnesses and psychological stress have their origins in physical or emotional trauma. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy works particularly well with these traumas, facilitating a safe resolution of shock and held experiences. These changes can have a profound effect on a person’s body and on how they relate with others.

Pregnancy, Mothers, Babies and Children

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy can help a woman’s body adjust to the changes created by pregnancy. Treatments during the term of the pregnancy can also support the new mother to approach labour with strength, confidence and vitality.  Working with mothers and babies postnatally can help with recovery from the the rigours of childbirth.

Babies respond very well to Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy and it is particularly beneficial to rebalance the whole body system within the first year. Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is extremely gentle and respectful to the baby, and recognises that babies are conscious and very aware.

Many babies experience strong compressive forces during birth, which can cause a contraction within their system. This can manifest as shock and trauma, leading to other conditions. If treated at this stage the birth trauma can be resolved before traumatic holding patterns become set within the physical body.

Birth trauma can lead to a myriad of conditions experienced by babies and if not corrected these can lead to significant life long health issues. The wisdom of dealing with any trauma experienced during birth, as soon as possible after birth, is obvious.

What are the benefits?
